G’Day From Sunny Southport Bowls Club

Well  -  what a start to the year.

 Three quarters of Queensland under water with some towns evacuated two and three times, deadly floods in a city on top of a mountain and with no river, even deadlier floods in the beautiful Lockyer Valley, Brisbane and Ipswich inundated and to top it off one of the biggest cyclones to ever hit Australia smashes north Queensland and has far reaching consequences over half of the country.

As someone said,   “we’ve been kicked in the Yasi”.
But now for the good news.
Every thing on the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast is fine. We are untouched, although I don’t know how.
Just lucky, I guess.
As I sit writing this note to you all – the sun is shining, the breeze is light -  it’s another beautiful summers day.
Weather we are famous for and why everybody wants to come to Queensland  -  especially in winter.
Our two bottom greens came back into play in mid February after renovations and have never played better.
The top green is now undergoing a similar treatment as the other two and should be “back in” in early-mid March.

Now for the Southport Bowls events for this year :-

  • Sunday 3rd July – All day Two Bowl Triples. 
      • 3 games – 18 ends

                 All the PRAWNS you can eat plus a SAUSAGE SIZZLE is included in the entry fee.

  • Monday 4th July – All day Four Bowl Pairs
      • 3 games – 15 ends

                           Followed by a great AFTERNOON TEA after the game.

Please note that both of these events are open.
That means that every one is welcome. Yes, you know by now who I mean – Kiwis, Vics, etc., etc., etc.

  • Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th July – Warm Up Fours
      • One of the longest running tournaments on the Gold Coast – two days of Mens Fours

Sunday 31st July and Monday 1st August – Southport Mens Invitation Pairs

      • One of the highlights of our bowling calendar
